1.0 | UX OF Reading
Reading is an active process of constructing meanings of words. It is a thinking process.
Brief: Design an experience that reveals what happens when we read.
Team : Ula , Manali, Eric, Sanya
We were expected to deliver a prototype with the requirement of using two research methods in a week : Literature Review and Prototyping.
Initially, I started brainstorming with my own brain, because we learn to read as a first thing after being able to understand things. I began to pose questions. Does reading differ for everyone? What happens when we read, what skills are used during reading?
We did the literature review by reading some journals and articles. We found out some interesting insights and we concluded them with some keywords and sentences.
Propagation : How does literature rendered in electronic/print media technologies drive social innovation?
Prototype
Prototyping is the tangible creation of artifacts at various levels of resolution, for developing and testing of ideas within people. We discussed a few ideas and came up with a workshop experience to engage people and reveal what happens when they complete it.
Ideas of obtaining experience.
As the human brain creates opinion on everything, all that we read creates an influence on our mind. To show that everything follows a bias, we tried to run a workshop where we can manipulate the human brain when they read by giving them material and watch how they express their views at the end.
Conceptusilation to execute on plan.
Making of Prototype.
Concept | Bias Creation through reading
Our goal is to demonstrate how all follows a bias. What happens when we read - we form an opinion on everything, and whatever we read can influence that opinion.
We have decided to choose a controversial issue, the issue of cultured meat.
Should the traditional production of meat be replaced with a laboratory grown meat?
In our experience, we had 4 steps, each participant will get his or her own personal board to map the experiential journey.
Output
Reading develops inference, deduction and comprehension skills.
This experience aimed to portray a descriptive visualization of how reading can play a fundamental role in shaping and perhaps influencing opinions to the point of shifting them entirely.
The idea was to test the impact of reading on the pre-existing views of participants by providing them with a debatable topic following by a selection of short reads on the topic in question. As a result, we were able to showcase whether reading has had an impact in their opinions or if their opinions have remained unchanged.
